The double arched gate as we entered the grounds. They were built 900 years ago.
These are some of the headstones that have been worn down and eroded over time.
We were inside the nave of the church that was built in 900! They figured the windows were likely covered in animal skins.
This church is entirely intact due to the fact the roof was built of rocks!
The roads we were driving on were narrow. We drove through the Wicklow mountains. It was scrub land, covered in purple Heather and yellow Gorse. Very pretty. We eventually got into farmland where we saw cows and sheep! We even saw a few of the iconic sheep on the road!
(Bad photo from the moving bus...sorry!)
Our next stop was Kilkenny. They are in the midst of their “hurling” championship! Our guide likened it to the Stanley cup or Super Bowl championship. Since the county Kilkenny had made it to the finals (this Sunday ), the place was decked out in the team colours, black and amber. The game is similar to field hockey and lacrosse.
These are some hurling players. The big match was the senior team, but this young guy was playing the championship game for the junior team! It was quite a thing!
The town’s hurling statue!
Kilkenny was a very old medieval town, most famous for its castle. We toured the castle that has been restored to the 18th century, but it was originally built 1194 to 1210.
The drawing room.

The extravagant picture room.
